The origin of the name Adult Swim comes from signs at public swimming pools denoting hours when children are not allowed in the pool. I chose the tagline, "Adult SuperVision Required" because it also might be something you'd see on that same sign yet also relates to the channel and its programming. I believe this works strongly with the demographic because at that age many would want to rebel against it and watch it anyways or take the stance that they are now adults and can watch what they want, therefore watch Adult Swim. I also used SuperVision as a play on words meaning excellent vision. The ads tell the viewers "you need Super-Vision to see us" almost like a dare to come watch. The tagline again serves a third purpose as much of the programming is cartoons and animation with super heros who might have super-vision as a power.
Beer Pong is a college staple and Adult Swim acknowledges that its audience plays. Sign up online to receive free cups and balls. In signing up, the network in return receives valuable information about their viewers such as email addresses for future email blast. And of course the cups and balls serve as advertising at parties where the merchandise is used.
